PPTP Connection, where is the log file stored when "Enable Logging" is selected?
When I try to connect to a PPTP VPN I'm getting a certain error (the specifics of the error aren't the topic of this post, however). I have checked the "Enable Logging" option that is displayed in the "Error Connecting to VPN Connection" but don't know where those logs are found. They're not in C:\Windows\Logs which is where I would have first suspected them to be. Does anyone know where I can find them? Thanks! Wes

Hi, Which VPN Client is used on the computer, Cisco or other system? If the Client is Cisco system, please locate the following folder. Also, you may need involve Cisco support for further assistance. C:\Program Files\Cisco systems\VPN client\logs For more information, please refer to the link below: Troubleshooting VPN problems Please Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This answer does not address the question, which specifically mentioned PPTP and made no mention of Cisco. Please unmark this as the answer. I would like an answer to the question. When using Windows PPTP, if the connection fails, a dialog is brought up which offers the option to "Enable Logging". If one selects this option then proceeds to attempt to connect, where are the logs stored?

It appears that in previous versions of Windows, the info would be logged to %systemroot%\logfiles, but in Windows 7, it appears that the logs are collected in some undisclosed location. I found, however, that if you can get the connection to fail, you can enable logging, and after retrying and the connection fails again, there is a hyperlink (named 'details' or 'diagnostics' if I recall correctly). Clicking this hyperlink brings up a new dialog with a button "Generate Report". This will allow you to generate a report from a number of logged sources. The report is generated as HTML and can be viewed through your default browser. It can also be e-mailed to you or a colleague.
